Recent chromotherapy studies have claimed to be able to use light as color to balance energy lacking from a person's body, whether it be on physical, emotional, spiritual or mental levels. Believe it or not, we can still consider the positive influence which derives from this colour as follows:
"Pink is the colour of beauty and female creativity, expressing sweetness, tenderness, protection, sensuality, empathy and affection. It is closely related to the concept of inner baby and to other such as fourth chakra".
Pink through history
The history of pink, as many other colours, dates back to the Middle Ages and Renaissance, though it was not a common clour in the fashion of the Middle Ages. Nobles usually preferred brighter reds, such as crimson. However, it did appear sometimes in women's fashion, and in religious art. In the 13th and 14th century, in the works of Cimabue and Duccio, baby Jesus was sometimes portrayed dressed in pink, the colour associated with the body of Christ.
The golden age of pink dates back to the Rococo Period, during the 18th century, when pastel colours became very fashionable in all the European courts. Pink was particularly championed by Madame de Pompadour (1721 - 1764), the mistress of King Louis XV of France. She wore combinations of pale blue and pink, and had a particular tint of pink made for her by a porcelain factory, that created this tone by abbing nuances of blue, black and yelow.
Even though we can trace the use of pink during the past history, it was not before the late 20th century when it became a popular fashion colour and this was thanks to an Italian fashion designer, Elsa Schiaparelli (1890 - 1973), who created a new variety of the colour, names shocking pink, made by the mixture of magenta and a small amount of white. Elsa was also known for a scandal, when she decided to launch a perfume with the same name, Shocking de Schiaparelli, sold in a bottle resembling a woman's bust.
To consider pink a high fashion colour, we need to wait until 1962, when Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of President John F. Kennedy, attracted all the attention on her adorable and incredibly elegant pink suits.
